In Bengaluru district, Karnataka State, our project targets women and girls from slum communities. We are delivering improved water, sanitation and hygiene for 65,200 people in 43 government institutions, including healthcare facilities, Anganwadi centres and schools. Anganwadi centres are pre-school institutions which act as immunisation centres and provide nutritional supplements to children, adolescent girls, and mothers.

In Kanker district, Chhattisgarh State, we are improving access to safe drinking water in 15 Gram Panchayats (village councils) to reach 52,150 people with clean water. This includes safe drinking water supply in healthcare facilities. This location faces huge water quality challenges and this project will also build community awareness of and capacity to manage water quality.

Tanzania has one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa. However, its economic growth has not benefited all areas of the country equally, with 16 million people lacking access to clean water, and 40 million people lacking access to improved sanitation. Completing a three-year project this year with Water.org, Acqua for Life will transform the lives of 158,000 people in Tanzania with access to safe water and sanitation through affordable financing, such as small loans.

One in five people in Nigeria - 44.5 million people – don’t have clean water close to home.
To address this, WaterAid is providing clean water and carrying out hygiene promotion in Bauchi and Lagos States. In Bauchi, the non-profit is constructing 30 handpump boreholes to provide clean water for 15,000 people and training local artisans to maintain the facilities for long-term sustainability. The project in Lagos involves rehabilitating the Akilo Ogba mini water works to provide clean water to 100,000 people. Alongside this, WaterAid is also training a private operator for the water works and running a hygiene behaviour change campaign.

In Madagascar, more than 90% of healthcare centers have no hygiene services, and more than 80% of schools lack access to safe drinking water and handwashing facilities throughout the school day. Acqua for Life is working in two communities, Anjepy and Manjakandriana, which have no access to clean drinking water. In this specific district, Acqua for Life will continue to work with WaterAid to bring a clean water supply and sanitation services to the district’s three schools and its healthcare facilities, helping over 17,000 people. Madagascan vanilla, an ingredient that is found in a number of Giorgio Armani fragrances, is produced and harvested further north of these regions, as part of a sustainable sourcing program to help local communities in the protected area of Loky Manambato.

In Rwanda, 4.8 million people – just over a third of the population – don’t have clean water close to home.
In Bugesera District, WaterAid is constructing a water supply system to increase the distribution of clean water to the community. The new system will reach 10,000 people, improving their health and wellbeing. In addition, the non-profit is also improving household sanitation facilities and running a hygiene behaviour change campaign

In Zambia, nearly a third of people don’t have clean water close to home.
Starting in April 2025, Acqua for Life will support a new project in partnership with WaterAid. This initiative aims to work with the community to deliver sustainable water services to three healthcare centers in the Monze District.
