Use the white flocked side of the sponge to apply the powder all over the face and matify your liquid foundation, or concentrate on the T-zone to matify the area.
You can also use a Blush or Loose Powder Brush to apply all over the face.
To use the powder as a standalone without foundation, use the black side of the sponge to build coverage over a primer.
